601: Understand Complex BSL in a Wide Range of Work Situations

Part 1 of the Signature Level 6 NVQ Certificate in BSL caters for the learning needs of those who already have competence in BSL at level 3. This qualification is useful for those who work professionally with Deaf people or those who aspire to work in the Deaf community. Part 1 covers the teaching on the linguistic issues and it prepares learners for the assessment component of the programme. Part 2 covers building quality portfolios for submissions.

602: Use Complex BSL in a Wide Range of Work Situations

We will instruct learners how to improve their language skills so they match the required standard of the Level 6 component and prepare them for successful portfolio building explored in Part 2.

The aim of the course is to enable learners to understand complex BSL in the context of a range of work and social situations. Learners will undertake a wide variety of work such as negotiations, discussions and the relaying of instructions. Learners will also be taught how to understand and interpret news items, interviews and documentaries. This work will increase their complex vocabulary by exploring the many different ways of explaining and describing a subject. This will, in turn, prepare BSL graduates for a wide variety of professional and social situations.

[Students need to have achieved Signature BSL Level 3 Certificate or equivalent to enroll]

Potential students will attend an informal skills assessment to determine if they are ready to enter the BSL Level 6 component of their studies.
